Action
A term which describes your total spent time at a table game.

Adding On
Adding more money to the casino through a deposit.

Advantage Player
Any player who has an advantage against the casino without cheating is called “Advantage Player”.

All-In
Stake all your money on one bet.

American Wheel (Roulette)
A 38-number roulette wheel with two 0’s.

Ante
Name of the fee which is paid in order to participate in a game round.

Automatic Club
An automated casino.

Avatar
A profile picture.

B

Baccarat
6-8 decked multiplayer skill game.

Back Raise
Slang word for “Re-Raise”.

Bad Beat
Losing with a strong hand.

Banker
Synonym to “Dealer”.

Bankroll
The money a player has reserved for gambling.

Barred / Banned
Being Banned results in no future access to a casino.

Beard
A player who bet for someone else.

Beef
A dispute between a player and a dealer.

Beginner’s Luck
The theory that new players have more luck than old players.

Bet
The action a player takes when staking money in a casino.

Bet Levels
“Bet Levels” allow you to increase or decrease the amount of coins staked per spin.

Bet Max
Bet maximum amount of coins at maximum coin value in a spin.

Betting Limit
The “Betting Limits” are the minimum and maximum amount that can be used to bet.

Big Blind
A fee paid by a player to see the flop in a poker round.

Bingo
Bingo is a game played on cards. A dealer announces numbers and players shout “BINGO” when/if they win.

BlackJack
“Blackjack” is the name of a player’s or dealer’s initial hand including a card valued 10 + an ace (11) in the table game also named Blackjack.

Blind Bet
A bet in a poker game from a player who doesn’t look at the cards before placing the bet.

Blinds
A fee which players need to pay in each poker hand before seeing the “Flop”.

Bluff
Players can “Bluff” by placing high stakes with a bad hand.

Boat
Poker slang for “Full House”.

Bonus Game
A feature inside a slot machine with other ways to win.

Bonus Money
Money which needs to be wagered X times before the money is transformed from bonus to real money.

Bookie
A person who permit bets.

Brit Brag
A three card Poker game.

Buck
A $100 bet.

Bug
A synonym for a Joker.

Bump
To raise the bet from another player.

Burn Card
“Burn Cards” are cards which are discarded between deals to be excluded from the game round.

Bust
Exceeding 21 in Blackjack results in a “Bust” (a loss).

Button
The “Button” clarifies the position of the Dealer in Blackjack.

Call
Match a player bet or required amount for participating in a game round.

Caller
A player who calls a bet. In Bingo, the Caller is the person announcing the order of bingo balls.

Camouflage
A disguise, acting drunk or high for example.

Capping
Bet amounts which exceed the bet levels, Capping can be considered cheating.

Card Counting
To count the played cards to get an “Edge” against the Casino.

Card Shark
A card player at expert level.

Card Washing
A shuffling technique where the dealer spread out all cards face down on the table. The Card Washing shuffle is used to eliminate consistency throughout the deck(s) of cards.

Carousel
A group of slot machines.

Carpet Joint
Slang for a luxury gambling casino.

Case Money
Emergency money. It’s always good to have more money than what’s in the bankroll.

Cashback / Cash Back
A loyalty program where a player receives a certain percentage of deposited or lost amounts in the form of a goodwill bonus and/or real money.

Cash Out
Synonym for “Withdraw”, to move casino winnings to a personal bank account or e-wallet.

Cashier
The person who exchanges your money into casino chips in a real casino.

Casino Advantage
The edge of a casino. In Blackjack for example, casinos will have different advantages depending on if they offer a S17 or a H17 Blackjack.

Casino Rate
A casino can offer reduced prizes for loyal casino players as a substitute for casino rewards.

Casino Rewards
Something valuable, it’s like a medal but something which can be spent in the casino. Casino rewards are usually based on activity.

Chase
To adjust bet levels to chase losses from previous bet(s).

Chip Tray
The place where the dealer keep the casino chips.

Chips
Tokens which substitute for real money inside casinos.

Coat-tail
Betting on the same results as a winning player.

Coin Value
The value of the coins inside a slot machine.

Cold Streak
A losing casino session.

Color Up
Exchange small chips for chips with a higher value.

Column Bet
Players may bet on 12 of the 36 numbers (0’s excluded). Winning column Bets pays 2:1.

Community Cards
Cards available to every player in a round.

Corner Bet
A corner bet is divided on 4 numbers, hence ‘corner’. A winning Corner bet pays 8:1. Also called a “Carré”.

Credits
The currency of a casino. The most common name for credits is “coins”.

Croupier
French for dealer.

Cut
Dividing the deck of cards before dealing them.

Cut Card
A card which is never used in play, only to cut the deck when shuffling.

D

Deal
Pressing on “Deal” will provide new cards.

Dealer
The person in a casino who is dealing the cards to players.

Dealer Button
A Dealer Button is placed on the poker table to clarify the position of the Dealer. Cards are dealt clockwise starting from the left of the dealer.

Deposit
Adding real money to the casino.

Deuces Wild Poker
A video poker game where number 2 is a wild.

Dime Bet
A $1000 bet.

Discard
To reject some or all cards that have been dealt while asking for new ones.

Discard Tray
The place for used/burnt cards of the dealer.

Dog
A weak player or a player who is likely to lose.

Dog Player
A player who usually bet on the underdog.

Double Down
A Blackjack feature where you ask for 1 more card only while doubling your staked money.

Double or Nothing
A function where a player can bet his winnings for a chance to double them, or lose them.

Download Casino
A downloadable casino client cannot be played through a browser.

Dozens Bet
A bet on 12 numbers (a dozen) in roulette, pays 2:1.

Draw
Asking for another card.

Drop
A bet which is lost in a hand and/or round.

E

Early Surrender
The “Early Surrender” can be used by a Blackjack player before the dealer check his/her cards for a Blackjack (21). Early surrender gives half of your bet back.

Edge
The casino always has an edge/advantage against the player, which means that they have an advantage.

En Prison
A (European) rule which is applied to even-money bets in roulette.

European Wheel
Roulette with 37 numbers in total (0-36).

Even Money
“Even Money” refers to any bet where the potential win is equivalent to the staked amount. “Even/Odd” and “Red/Black” are examples of even money bets.

Even/Odd
Playing on “Even/Odd” in Roulette means that you play on 16 odd or even out of 37 numbers which pays 1:1 in case of a win.

Eye in the Sky
Cameras in a casino.

F

Face Cards
Cards with a picture printed on it. Like an Ace, King, Queen & Jack.

Face Value
“Face Value” is used to clarify the original value of a card.

Family Pot
A shared prize pool that any participant can win.

Fifth Street / 5th Street
The third round in Seven Card Stud is called “5th Street” because of five cards being used.

First Base / 1st Base
The Chair at the dealer’s left is where the game commence.

Fish
A gambler who extract the most losses from other players is called a “Fish”.

Flash Casino
Most online casinos are flash casinos (same as “Instant Casino”), always try to play on a Flash Casino rather than on a “Download Casino”.

Flat Betting
To continuously bet the same amount in each bet/hand.

Flop
The 3 initial community cards in Texas Hold’em.

Flush
When every card in the hand have the same suit.

Four of a Kind
Four cards of the same value. For example four Aces, four Kings, four 7’s, four 4’s, etc.

Fourth Street / 4th Street
The Fourth Street is the second round in Seven Card Stud Poker as players have 4 cards.

Free Roll
A free tournament without fees.

Free Spins
“Free Spins” are bonus spins given to players to play X amount of free spins in a specific casino game. Winnings from free spins are usually subject to a “Wagering Requirement”.

French Roulette
37 number Roulette with extra bet systems.

Full House
A hand with a three-of-a-kind and a pair (3+2 = 5 cards).

Gamble
Risking money to win.

Gambler’s Fallacy
The (invalid) theory that previous outcomes can assist the player in determining future outcomes.

George
Any gambler who tip the dealer is called George.

GOY
Abbreviation for Game of the Year

Grease
Slang for “Bribes”. Any bribe is called “Grease” in the casino world.

Gross Winning
The total amount of winnings.

H

Hand
The cards that a player holds in a round.

Handicapper
Someone who can guess the result of a bet.

Hard Hand
Any hand without an Ace card on the hand.

Heads-Up
A showdown between 2 players.

High-Low
A type of poker where the pot is divided between the best and the worst hand.

High Roller
A high stake player.

Hit
“Hit” can be used to describe winning combinations or a basic win, but is also the decision of taking an additional card in Blackjack.

Hole Card
The dealer’s card which is faced down.

Home Advantage
A player have advantage by playing on their home field. (they might know the dealer and might be familiar with different patterns and security measures)

Hot
A casino game is considered “Hot” if it provides wins frequently.

Hot Streak
A long winning run, the opposite of a “Cold Streak”.

House
Synonym for the Casino.

House Edge
The advantage that the casino has against the players in a casino game.

House Rules
“House Rules” are specific rules for a casino.

I

Inside Bet
Any bet placed on numbers inside the “Layout”.

Instant Casino
Synonym to “Flash Casino”.

Insurance
An opportunity for players to guard themselves against the dealer’s potential Natural Blackjack (21).

IPP
Abbreviation for: Irregular Playing Pattern

J

Jackpot
A large sum of money which is offered in a casino game. Jackpots are usually found in slots & video slots such as the Mega Fortune slot, which is a “Progressive Jackpot”.

Jacks or Better
A poker game where Jacks, Queens, Kings & Aces pay more than other cards.

Joker Poker
A video poker game where the Joker is a wild card, is called “Joker Poker”.

Jokers
“Jokers” are so-called “Wild Cards” in card games.

Juice
The commission taken by casinos. (see “Vigorish”)

K

Kicker
The backup-card to accompany your hand as a high card. The higher kicker card decides the winner if two players have the same hand.

L

Ladderman
The person controlling the game in Baccarat.

Late Surrender
The “Late Surrender” can be used if the dealer doesn’t have blackjack.

Layout
The place on any table game where players can place bets.

Lay the Odds
Betting on your personal favorite, like me betting on number 7 in roulette because it’s my lucky number.

License
Every casino needs a licence in order to operate, this is the certification of a casino being permitted to offer casino games.

Live Dealer Games
Casino game with live dealer(s).

Lobby
Where you see the different games available.

Long Shot
The team with the smallest chance of winning, synonym to “Underdog”.

Loose
A player is considered to be “loose” when playing more hands than the average player.

Low Poker
A poker game where winners are determined by the lowest rank among the cards.

Loyalty Scheme / Loyalty Program
Loyalty programs are used to reward loyal players at a casino.

M

Martingale
A betting system used by doubling the bet amount in case of a loss.

Maximum Bet / Max Bet
The maximum amount to bet.

Minimum Bet
The minimum amount to bet.

Money in Action
The amount available for gambling. Having €1,300 on your account doesn’t matter if the buy-in limit is at €500 at the poker table.

Moving the Line
The concept of paying additional money to increase your chances of winning.

Multi-hand Games
Casino games where multiple hands simultaneously are allowed.

Multi-line Game
A casino game with more than 1 pay line.

Multiplayer Games
Where you play together and/or against other casino players..

Multiplier
A slot feature can multiply the value of a winning symbol or combination with X amount, depending on the multiplier.

MVG
Abbreviation for “Most Valued Guest”, similar to a VIP.

N

Natural (Blackjack)
A two-card hand in Blackjack, accumulating to 21 points.

Natural Royal
A Royal Flush hand without wild cards (jokers).

Net Winning
Net payout.

Nickel
A $500 bet.

No-Limit Poker
Poker where there is no maximum amount for bets/raises.

No Deposit Bonus
A bonus offered to a player without making a deposit.

Number Pool
The amount of potential outcomes. Keno for example has 80, while Bingo usually have 75/90.

O

Odds
The chance of winning or potential winnings in sports, from a ratio aspect.

Operators
Online casinos are “Operators” in the online casino business.

Outside Bet
Even-money (1:1) bets or 2:1 bets are called “Outside Bets” due to the position of these.

Overlay
A state where a player has the edge against the “House” is called “Overlay”. A rare occasion in other words.

Pair
2 cards of the same value.

Pallete
“Pallete” is the name of the wooden score board in Baccarat.

Pass
An action used in Poker where players can choose to pass if they wish to see another card without raising the bet.

Pat Hand
Hand completed when the initial cards are dealt.

Pay Line
Shows where winning combinations need to be in order for you to win something.

Pay Table
An overview of potential winning combinations and the winning amounts.

Payout
The amount of won coins. Please note that the “Bet Level” affects the bets/winnings in a round.

Payout Percentage
An approximate number to indicate how much winnings players win on average.

Payout Table
A table that display an overview of the exact value in winning combinations.

Penetration
Indicates how much of a deck that is dealt before the deck is shuffled (in percentage).

Pigeon
An ignorant gambler.

Pit
The area between table games where only staff are allowed.

Pit Boss
Supervisor over casino staff & tables.

Pocket
The player’s initial hole cards.

Pot
The total prize pool for a round.

Progressive Jackpot
The name for constantly increasing jackpots, such as Arabian Nights and/or Mega Fortune.

Promotions
A bonus offer to multiple players.

Push
A draw in casino games.

Q

Quads
Slang for a “Four of a Kind” in Poker.

Qualifier
A threshold for players in order to qualify for a pot.

R

Rack
Where you keep coins/tokens/casino chips in a casino.

Raise
Increasing the cost to participate for players during a round.

Rake
A fee paid per round to the casino for offering their service to players.

Random Number Generator / RNG
A randomizing machine determining the outcome of every spin in a slot machine.

Red/Black
You can play on Red or Black colors in Roulette, the win ratio is 1:1 although you have a 48.65% chance to win.

Reel
The vertical rows inside a slot machine.

Reload Bonus
A reward for refilling your account balance by making a deposit.

River
The last community card in a Texas Hold’em round.

Rock
A player who is playing tight.

Roulette Table
Where bets are placed.

Roulette Wheel
Where the roulette ball is spun.

Row Bets
A bet on 12 of 37/38 numbers and pays 2:1.

Royal Flush
A straight between 10-Ace of the same suit.

Runner
Betting for someone else.

Scatter Symbol
Symbols that trigger a bonus feature without the need to be on an active payline.

Session
Total time spent in a specific game.

Shark
A skilled player who disguises himself as a “Fish”. Sharks eat fish.

Shoe
The box from where the dealer draw cards in a casino.

Showdown
The last part of the hand, where remaining players reveal their cards.

Shuffle Tracking
A card counting strategy used by high level blackjack players.

Sign Up
To register an account at an online casino.

Sign Up Bonus
The welcome bonus(es) received from signing up at a casino site.

Small Blind
The smaller required bet at the start of the poker game in order to create a pot size.

Soft Hand
A hand consisting of at least 1 Ace (opposite of “Hard Hand”).

Software Clients
A downloadable casino software. However, it is safer to play at flash casinos.

Spin
Starts a game round in a slot machine.

Split
Double the stake and divide the 2 cards in a Blackjack into 2 new hands. A player who “Splits” will receive a new card for each of the two hands.

Stake
Synonym to bet. The Stake is the amount you use for a bet. “To stake” means “to bet”.

Stand
No more cards

Stiff Hand
A hand which can get busted by 1 single hit.

Straight
Any hand with 5 cards in chronological order of any color.

Straight Flush
A straight of the same suit (clubs, hearts, etc.).

Street Bet
A bet placed on 3 numbers which pay 11:1.

Suited
2 or more cards of the same suit (spades, hearts, etc).

Surrender
Forfeit the hand by forfeiting half the bet.

Symbols
Populates the fields in a slot machine. Winning combinations are usually created by having 3 consecutive symbols on an active payline.

Tight
A player who play few hands.

Toke
Player gift to the dealer.

U

Upcard
The dealer’s first card which is displayed face-up.

V

Vigorish
A commission charged by a casino.

VIP
Abbreviation for Very Important Player.

Volatility
Payout ratio.

Wager
Bet amount

Whale

Wild Card
